The revealing of the cliff is an artificial thing, formed by chalk mining; now not in operation. It's not formed by a natural process, which could of come from an extinct volcanic eruption, like Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh for example. The cliff is also not worn by wind and waves, which would create variation in the elevation and possibility of pockets and shelves inhabited by birds, if it was situated in the North Atlantic or another exposed spot. Instead, it's now become an anonymous elevation to an absent use.
In this space, we encounter a human absent of character. I intend to augment a faceless figure as a means to communicate something lyrical. The shear 'weight' of the landscape material reflects the weight and the burden of the absent self.
